The Highland Park chapter of NCSY (National Conference of Synagogue Youth) is sponsored by three local congregations: Ahavas Achim, Ohav Emeth, and Ohr Torah. The three synagogues share all the costs and responsibilities of the chapter. A joint inter-shul committee, comprised of two representatives from each shul, is responsible for hiring and supervising the advisors, as well as serving as liaisons between the organization and the community. All Jewish children in our community are welcome to participate, regardless of synagogue affiliation. The joint inter-shul committee members welcome parent suggestions to help insure the success of NCSY activities. The committee representatives are:
Our Junior NCSY group is led by Rechelle Winkler and assisted by Ben Stern. Rechelle Winkler is a Senior a Stern College and Ben is a Junior. Both advisors have along history of dedication to and involvement in NCSY. The Junior group is extremely active and is consistently one of the best chapters in the Etz Chaim region. The presidents of the junior group for the 1999-2000 year are Avi Eserner and Rena Leskowitz.
Our Senior NCSY chapter was the proud recipient of the Region's "Chapter of the Year" award for 1997. This year, the chapter's advisors are Shaena Cantor and Alex Mondrow. Shaena, a Junior at Stern College, was our Junior NCSY Advisor last year. She has been actively involved in NCSY on the local and regional level for several years. Alex, graduated from Yeshiva University in June and is currently at RIETS.
Both the Junior and Senior groups aim to provide activities that are fun for the children, while instilling values of learning Torah and Gemilas Chesed. We are very proud of our outreach to the Jewish community, in terms of both chesed and kiruv.
